“When I first started acting in Tampa television commercials as an actor in the mid 1990's, I didn’t even know what a headshot was, or why I needed one.” Aurora PhotoArts lead photographer Chris Passinault explains, “I knew how to network, and how to book work without going through a talent agency. I was one of the first independent actors. I kind of fell into acting, as I had been taking television and independent film production courses through the University of Tampa, and had interned at Tampa television stations. Some of my instructors in those courses were working professionals in the Tampa television industry, and they found out that I could act one day when we had a stage reading with a group of actors and were short; I suppose that my years of experience, being self taught, as a popular underground DJ doing a lot of voice over and acting work paid off. I was soon offered the lead in plays, and began working in lot of Tampa television commercials, primarily with Time Warner. One day, I was at Time Warner in Tampa, and they were helping me put together my reel. One of the casting directors asked if they had a headshot of me on file. I told them that I didn’t have a headshot. Well, since I was already working with them, I managed to avoid giving them a headshot, but I realized that if I had professional marketing material, that finding and booking more acting jobs would be easier. I learned what a headshot was, and why I needed one. I learned what made an effective headshot, as well, and took my time to learn as much as I could about the promotion and the marketing of my acting career.”
Passinault continued, “I had orthodontic work done in 1997, and had to quit acting on television, as well as DJ’ing, because at times it was hard to talk, and it altered my appearance somewhat. In 1998, I began designing my own web sites, and needed family-friendly pictures for those web sites. As a result of that work, my photography career, which began in 1994, began to take off, and took on a life of its own. I worked with professional models, actors, and talent in my photography work, and by 2000, my work as a photographer had advanced to the point where I finally became a professional photographer. As a professional photographer, I did a lot of work on modeling portfolio photography and talent headshots. My experience as a professional actor, and the research that I had done years prior learning about headshots and how to market my acting career, applied to my work as a headshot photographer. By 2002, my headshot photography became widely acclaimed, and sought after by professional actors from all over Florida. I have been the best Tampa headshot photographer since 2002, and, to my knowledge, very few Tampa photographers, or photographers elsewhere in Florida, can approach what I can do. As a photographer, I tend to do what I love to do. I am very serious about my modeling and talent photography work, and specialize in modeling portfolios and talent headshots.
